About LinerGrid

The company LinerGrid was established in 2016 to offer access to a unique mathematical engine designed to optimize liner shipping networks.

The optimization of liner shipping networks is a highly complex mathematical problem due to the large number of vairables and constraints involved. As examples of variables, one only has to consider the sheer number of port combinations possible – and when this is mixed with the variety of vessel types, the diverse flows of containerised cargo as well as inland transportation alternatives, a clear analytical solution between intractable. Additionally, any network design must also adhere to a substantial set of constraints such as port depth, crane availability, cabotage regulations etc.

Therefore, LinerGrid’s model has been designed to serve as a practical decision support tool, offering the possiblity to explore a large subset of alternate network design possibilities, while taking due consideration to the constraints facing any carrier.

The cloud-based mathematical engine has been designed to serve either as a tool for individual carriers, or as a tool assisting container alliances in improving their joing networks.

The underlying mathematical ngine has been shown to be capable of reducing network costs by 5-10% in both hypothetical studies as well as in practical use.
